Purpose: trim leading white space and blank lines from template source after it gets interpreted, cleaning up code and saving bandwidth. Does not affect <<PRE>></PRE> and <SCRIPT></SCRIPT> blocks.
Install: Drop into the plugin directory, call

$smarty->load_filter('output','trimwhitespace');

from application.
